The field Big Data analytics provides tools for inferring inherent patterns from large amounts of data. These tools provide solutions to a broad scope, from predicting future data from available data to the disclosure of unknown clusters of data points. By distributing the necessary operations and partitioning initial problems into subproblems, it is further possible to apply these methods, which also impose challenging requirements to the available hardware, to large amounts of data. This training provides an in-depth review of the data analytics potential of Big Data frameworks. Necessary components of data-driven machine learning systems are presented and discussed. These systems are made concrete by discussing typical large-scale analytics patterns. The mathematical background of possible solutions to these patterns is explained and applications to real data are understood by hands-on exercises.

The trainees obtains knowledge about the motivation, mathmatical background and usage of recommendation systems.
Predictive analytics and regression methods are presented in an application-oriented way.
Unsupervised learning is introduced and demonstrated as tool for anomaly detection.
The trainees know how to optimize model parameters by distributed Monte Carlo methods.
