TRA-1: HPC cluster usage trainings

Contact

Peter Winkler, Rene Jäkel

Target

Developers who want to control communication patterns and data distribution for maximum of throughput or minimum of latency.

Dependencies

None.

Description

Typically, serial programs reach speed limitations when they are applied to large datasets. To avoid long run times, an easy solution is to write a parallel version of the program. This requires knowledge about various details of the hard- and software platform. Additionally, various programming models exist for developers. Using this service, a potential developer for high-performance systems gets an overview over the various aspects of high-performance programs.

Offerings

  • We start with providing descriptions of differences between a user's PC and high-performance computers and their environments for beginners.

  • The trainees learn how to use HPC resources at ZIH. This includes parallelization basics, such as data partitioning, communication patterns and memory models. Additionally, various available file systems are studied.

  • The trainees receive documents about parallelization concepts and implementing programs: Guides for various concepts related to parallelization, e.g. shared and distributed memory models, the bulk synchronous parallel model and others, are planned to be available.

  • The trainees receive documents and example programs about parallelization technologies, such as OpenMP, MPI and others and learn to use parallelization techniques.Consumption

  • A potential trainee can select a course or ask for individual training. Courses are available for beginners and more advanced users.

  • Contact us (via e-mail or phone)

  • We send you a registration form.

  • Fill out the form and send it back to us.

  • We inform you about your successful registration.
